PIPER ADUNCUM. - SPIKED PEPPER.
Common nameSpiked pepper, higuillo de hoja, menuda, man anesi wiwiri, false matico. Family Piperaceae (pepper family). Overview A small tropical tree, erect branches with drouping twiggs, indigenous to Suriname; growing up to 21 feet tall. The leaves are alternate elleptiptic, 4 - 10 inch long. The spikes are flexible, 5 - 7 inches long. The fruit is a one seeded berry; the small seeds are black. Spiked pepper has the same chemical properties as Matico (Piper angustifolium). Medicinal applications Used as a aromatic stimulant, against gonorrhea, leukorrhea, piles, hemorrhages and dyspepsia. It is also applied to ulcers.
