LIVISTONA CHINENSIS - CHINESE FAN PALM.
Common name: Chinese fan palm, fountain palm.
Family: arecaceae (palm family).
A solitary, 12 inch in diameter, often wider at the base, palm tree, that can grow to 40 - 50 feet tall, but usually seen at 30 feet.
The leaves are fan - shaped with a spiny petiole and drooping downwards giving it a foundation - like effect.
The flowers are hidden among the leaves.
The oval - like fruits, produced in bunches are blue - black. The fountain palm can be grown outdoors but is also suitable for growing indoors in a large container.
Hardiness: USDA zone 9B - 11. Propagation: by seeds. Culture: shows a good tolerance to cold and frost. It is also popular in temperate and tropical areas.
Tolerant of full sun, young plants should be partially shaded. Keep soil moist.
