This is one of the oldest spices; the dried seeds taste nutty.
When using the seeds toasted, the flavor is increased and it has a rich, nutty flavor.
The seeds are sprinkled over Korean and Japanese dishes. The whole seeds are also sprinkled over cakes and breads.
Also a flavoring for hummus, (sauce for kebabs) and is sometimes mixed with lemon and garlic for bread dips.
Sesame also has medicinal applications.
